On Tuesday, as Mayor of Mountain View, I announced that I had signed a proclamation declaring June to be Immigrant Heritage Month in Mountain View. I expressed outrage at the Trump administration’s separation of families at the Mexican borders. And I said I wished that there was something more that I could do.
Speaking for myself, there is more we can do. One worthwhile action is to join people across the U.S next Saturday in protesting the kidnapping of children by our government and the imprisonment of people seeking refuge in the United States.
This is a defining moment for our country – perhaps our “1933.” It’s time to re-arrange our schedules to make it clear that Trump and Sessions have gone way too far. It’s time to urge friends, family members, co-workers, and strangers to join us. These are not normal times. But we have the tools to communicate, organize, and make ourselves heard.
